Barefoot Training
FOOT AND CORE STABILIZER RELATIONSHIP
There is a powerful interconnection between the deep foot stabilizers (intrinsic) and the deep core stabilizers (pelvic floor, deep rotators etc. ) – I refer to this as our local stabilization pathway. Your foundation “aka” your feet. Think of them like a house. With a strong foundation made of concrete footers, steel rebar, cinder blocks, the house will be much stronger. Barefoot Training is key. I’ll get to that in a minute. Kick off your shoes and keep reading.
HOW DYNAMIC MOVEMENT AFFECTS THE BODY
When we jog, it increases. When we run, even more. Gymnast?? Ohhh, high impact. The fast twitch muscle fibers can only act so quickly to catch the force coming through the body and shunt it. Where does the rest of the impact go? The rest of our tissues and one very important one is the FASCIA.
INTEGRATING THE SHORT FOOT EXERCISE TO STRENGTHEN THE FEET
The exercise for integration of our feet and core is called short foot. Check out Dr. Emily Splichel’s video on how to integrate the foot to core sequencing via short foot. Check it out HERE.

BAREFOOT TRAINING BENEFITS
Training barefoot can strengthen the muscles of the foot and around the ankle joint. Shoes provide a lot of stability and support, but this can have a negative effect as it doesn’t always allow the feet and ankles to work.
Training barefoot improves proprioception, which is the perception of space and our orientation within the space around us.
Training barefoot improves muscle alignment and improves the neuromuscular pathways of the foot and leg.
Use this type of training to give you stronger arches. Many types of shoes artificially raise your arches and prevent them from doing their job. And, over time, this can lead to fallen arches.
Many shoes, especially those that are not fitted correctly or used in ways other than what they were made for, can cause foot issues such as bunions, corns, ingrown toenails, hammer toes and athlete’s foot.
